From the Gospel Coalition: On Youth Ministry

I think that the biggest problem of youth ministry was that it tended to separate the family at a time that the culture was doing that too. Rather than contradict the prevailing thought, the church utilized it. The same can be said for several trends in the church, such as consumerism, political ideologies, etc. The church could have been the last place on earth that families were whole (and given the modern family’s schedule, that even includes much of home life), but instead took its cue from culture.
